Both a hard flat surface and a cushioned pad are necessary for fiber optic connector polishings. When polishing PC style pre-radius connectors use the soft polishing pad on the glass polishing plate (PN: 9111 and 9111A). Then place the lapping film over the polishing pad to assure the removal of epoxy and proper polish of fiber without destroying the pre-radius of the ferrule.
