How to Use Fitel ID-H/R Single Mode Fiber and Ribbon Identifier
There are many fiber identifier products on the market by different manufacturers such as Fitel, Wilcom, Fluke Networks, etc. But Fitel’s ID-H/R LightFinder is one of the best fiber identifiers.
The ID-H/R is a lightweight, hand-held tool which identifies optical fibers by detecting the optical signals passing through the fiber utilizing local macro-bending detection technology.
This product comes with two components:
- The main unit PN AI02H. Battery, strap, and instruction manual are included.
- The carrying case PN AI02H-001. The case is easily to belt or tool pouch.
:: How Does a Fiber Identifier Work?
Simply put, the fiber identifier uses a super low insertion loss local detection method of macro-bending. This allows for detection of the optical signals during installation and maintenance without disconnecting the fiber or interrupting the traiffic signal.
This macro-bending method eliminates the need to open the optical fiber at the splice point reducing the probability of interrupting service to your customer.
:: What Type of Fiber Can Fitel ID-H/R Fiber Identifier Be Used with?
ID-H has a interchangeable adapter head mechanism. You can change the adapter heads for jacketed, tight-buffered coated, or ribbon fibers. This allows for identification of the specific type of optical fiber being used in most cabling systems.
:: Fitel ID-L Light Source
In order to fully utilize the ID-H/R fiber identifier’s power, it’s best to use it in conjunction with Fitel’s ID-L light source. This combination offers you all the right tools to make your job easier. The ID-L light source is a handheld unit with a single button to change the output mode from continuous wave (CW), 270Hz, 1kHz, and 2kHz. ID-L is battery powered and includes an auto-shutdown function.
Here is glance at the features of ID-L light source.
- 4 wavelength lineup
- 1310nm/1490nm/1550nm/1610nm
- Boost function
- Activating the BOOST function increases the output signal by 10dB
- Selection of 4 frequencies: CW, 270Hz, 1kHz, 2kHz
- Lightweight design for easy handling
- Operate more than 60 hours on battery
- Removable adapter for easy cleaning
- RoHS compliant
:: How to Identify the Dark Fiber
To identify a dark fiber, just follow this two simple steps
- Launch the tone signal to the contrast fiber with a ID-L light source.
- In the distribution frame, insert the fiber into the detection area of the ID-H identifier. When it detects the tone signal, it emits continuous sounds and illuminates directional LED arrows to show the signal direction and the tone signal using the LED display.
:: How to Detect Live Traffic
In the case of detecting the traffic signal, just insert the fiber into the identifier’s detection area. Once it detects the light traffic signal, the identifier emits intermittent sounds and illuminates directional LED arrows.
