3M Fibrlok 2540G 250-micron fiber splicing tool

The 3M Fibrlok 2540G fiber splice tool is designed to enable fast, easy splicing of 250-micron singlemode fiber in FTTP installations and in multimode enterprise installations.

The Fibrlok 250um fiber splice is designed to be installed at the drop in fiber distribution terminals and optical network terminals outside and at fiber distribution units and wall outlets indoors. According to the company, the low-loss splice provided by the tool can be installed with little or no training by nonspecialized technicians working inside buildings or outdoors. With the tool, several crews can be equipped for less than the cost of a single fusion splicer, says 3M.

The simple, rugged tool has a metallic splice element that locks the fibers in permanent alignment. It is portable, does not require electrical power and consistently exhibits low loss across environmental extremes.

The company contends that millions of Fibrlok splices have proven their value in FTTH installations in Asia where on-site splicing allows configuration of the fiber drop cable to meet the specific needs at the building.
