250um Fiber Termination

  1. Slide the clear protective tube, 250um protective tube, the 900um boot, in order onto the fiber to be terminated
  2. Refer to the strip template, and mark the 250um fiber at 40mm from end of the fiber
  3. Strip 40mm of coating from the fiber
  4. Check the fiber integrity by bending the stripped end slightly at 60°
  5. Clean the bare fiber using the lint-free wipe moistened with fiber preparation fluid or 95% purity or better isopropyl alcohol
  6. Insert the bare fiber into the CT30A cleaver and cleave to a length of 10.5mm plus or minus 0.5mm
  7. The wedge clip is engaged at shipment, if the wedge becomes dislodged, squeeze the top and bottom of the wedge clip ensuring the wedge is inserted into the connector body, a click will be heard
  8. Slide the 250um protective tubing into the end of the fiber coating

Option A: Termination without the use of a visual fault locator

  1. Insert the fiber slowly into the rear of the connector until a connection is made
  2. Make a bend in the fiber to maintain the connection
  3. Squeeze both sides of the wedge clip to release the wedge
  4. Discard the wedge clip
  5. Slide the 900um boot onto the connector
  6. Slide the clear protective tube towards the connector, and attach it to the 250um protective tube
  7. Termination is now complete

Option B: Termination using the visual fault identifier

  1. Remove the dust cap from the FAST connector, and insert the connector into the VFI (visual fault identifier)
  2. Turn on the VFI, there will be a red glow in position 1 of the wedge clip
  3. Insert the cleaved fiber into the rear of the connector until the red glow dims
  4. Make a bend in the fiber to maintain connection
  5. Squeeze both sides of the wedge clip to release the wedge
  6. Discard the wedge clip
  7. Remove the VFI from the connector
  8. Place the dust cap back onto the connector
