OTDR Launch Box

No matter the name—launch box, pulse suppressor, or launch cable—they all serve the same purpose. During fiber optic testing, technicians use them to eliminate what's known as the "Dead Zone" when checking for cable breaks or signal loss in a network.

When testing with an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), the launch box provides the necessary fiber length to allow accurate measurement from the very beginning of the cable. Without it, it's challenging to assess the insertion loss at both the near and far ends of the patch panel connections.
