The AFL LightGuard® LG-600 Aerial Weathertight Fiber Optic Splice Closure is a rugged, high-capacity fiber splice enclosure engineered for demanding outside plant aerial fiber optic networks. Designed to support up to 384 single fusion splices or 1,152 mass fusion splices, the LG-600 provides reliable cable management, environmental sealing, and long-term protection for backbone, feeder, distribution, and FTTx deployments.

Download Spec Sheet

Built for both butt and in-line cable configurations, the LG-600 combines a durable engineered thermoplastic housing with AFL's patented tongue-in-groove cover sealing system. This design helps protect critical fiber splices from moisture, dust, ultraviolet exposure, and harsh outdoor operating conditions.

The closure includes six individual self-sizing grommeted cable ports and can be expanded to support up to twelve cable entrances. Installation and re-entry require only a common can wrench, helping reduce field installation time and simplify future maintenance or network expansion.

The AFL LG-600 is well suited for telecommunications, broadband, CATV, utility, rural broadband, and high-count aerial fiber distribution networks.

Key Features

  • Supports up to 384 single fusion splices
  • Supports up to 1,152 mass fusion splices
  • Supports up to 36 mechanical splices
  • Suitable for butt or in-line cable entry configurations
  • Six individual self-sizing grommeted cable ports
  • Expandable to as many as twelve cable entrances
  • Patented tongue-in-groove cover sealing system
  • Installation and re-entry require only a common can wrench
  • Integrated grounding clamp through the aerial hangers
  • Cable retention clamps help provide pullout resistance
  • UV-resistant engineered thermoplastic construction
  • Compatible with multiple AFL single-fiber, mass-fusion, and universal splice trays
  • Designed for high-fiber-count outside plant aerial applications

High-Capacity Fiber Splice Management

The LG-600 is designed for high-count fiber splicing applications where capacity, organization, and long-term serviceability are critical. Depending on the splice tray configuration, the enclosure can accommodate up to twelve single-fiber splice trays or up to eight mass-fusion, universal, or mechanical splice trays.

This modular tray architecture allows network operators to configure the closure for loose-tube fiber, ribbon fiber, single fusion splicing, mass fusion splicing, or mechanical splicing. The large internal workspace also supports organized fiber routing and storage while helping maintain proper fiber bend radius.

Flexible Cable Entry Configuration

The LG-600 supports both butt-end and in-line cable routing, making it suitable for feeder cable splicing, branch points, express cable applications, restoration projects, and network expansion.

Six standard cable ports are provided. With optional dual grommets and multi-drop grommet kits, the enclosure can support additional cables and as many as twelve cable entrances. Depending on the selected grommet configuration, the closure can accommodate approximately 6 to 24 cables.

Weathertight Outdoor Construction

The closure housing is manufactured from UV-resistant engineered thermoplastic for long-term aerial deployment. AFL's patented tongue-in-groove cover sealing system provides dependable environmental protection while retaining convenient access for inspection, repair, or fiber additions.

The rugged enclosure is designed to protect installed fiber splices from common outside plant environmental conditions, including:

  • Rain and moisture
  • Dust and airborne contaminants
  • Wind-driven debris
  • Ultraviolet exposure
  • Seasonal temperature changes
  • Long-term outdoor weather exposure

Simplified Installation and Re-Entry

The LG-600 is designed to reduce installation complexity in aerial environments. A common can wrench is the only specialized access tool required for installation and re-entry. Self-sizing cable grommets, cable retention hardware, grounding provisions, and aerial hanger brackets further simplify field deployment.

This serviceable design makes it easier to reopen the closure for network additions, maintenance, troubleshooting, or fiber restoration without replacing the enclosure.

Typical Applications

  • Outside plant aerial fiber networks
  • Telecommunications backbone networks
  • High-count feeder and distribution cable splicing
  • FTTH and FTTx infrastructure
  • Broadband access networks
  • CATV and hybrid fiber-coaxial networks
  • Utility communications
  • Municipal and rural broadband networks
  • Campus and industrial aerial fiber systems
  • Fiber restoration and network expansion projects
