What is Telcordia GR-326-CORE?

>> Who is Telcordia? Together with the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs), Bellcore published specifications for many products used by Telecom Service Providers. Examples of the more widely mentioned of these specifications are GR-20-CORE, “Generic Requirements for Optical Fiber and Optical Fiber Cable”, for outside plant cables and GR-409-CORE, “Generic Requirements for Premises Fiber Optic Cable”, for intrabuilding cable. In 1997, Bellcore was purchased by SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) and renamed Telcordia. Telcordia continues to maintain various product specifications.   >> What is Telcordia GR-326-CORE? Telcordia GR-326-CORE, “Generic Requirements for Single-mode Optical Connectors and Jumper Assemblies,” is a specification

ANSI/TIA/EIA 942 Data Center Design Guidelines and Structured Cabling Standards

>> The Purpose of ANSI/TIA/EIA-942 TIA/EIA 942 is the telecommunications infrastructure standard for data centers. The list below shows its purpose: 1. The purpose of this standard is to provide requirements and guidelines for the design and installation of a data center or computer room. 2. It is intended for designers who need a comprehensive understanding of the data center design including the facility planning, the cabling system, and the network design. 3. It facilitates the planning for data centers to occur earlier in the building development process (architectural, facilities, and IT). Data centers support a wide range of transmission

How to Use 3M 6851-E Duplex Polishing Machine with Universal Dual Holder

>> Introduction The Duplex Polishing Machine 6851-E is intended for use to polish two LAN connectors at a time, and virtually eliminates the need to exchange the holder if switching from one connector type to another. For use with 3M Hot Melt ST, SC or FC Physical Contact (PC) connectors.   >> 1. General The 3M duplex polishing machine 6851-E with the universal dual holder is a compact, portable machine designed to polish 3M Hot Melt Connectors for LAN applications. The universal dual holder allows for polishing of two ST, SC or FC PC connectors at once. See figure 1

OM4 Fiber Frequently Asked Questions

>> Introduction On August 5, 2009 the TIA Standards Committee voted and approved the addition of a new EIA/TIA 492AAAD grade multimode fiber, which is known as OM4 fiber. This new grade had been the topic of discussion within multimode fiber industry for nearly 3 years, and approval by TIA formalized the specification and measurement methods of an enhanced bandwidth fiber similar to those already commercialized by Corning and other fiber manufacturers.   >> What is OM4? OM4 is a laser optimized, high bandwidth 50um multimode fiber. OM4 fiber is not a new fiber type. All major fiber manufacturers have

Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) Tutorial

>> What is PMD versus Differential Group Delay (DGD)? Polarization Mode Dispersion (PMD) is the average Differential Group Delay (DGD) one expects to see when measuring an optical fiber. DGD is the time separation or delay between the two principle polarization modes of the transmission link at the receiver. DGD is an instantaneous event and varies randomly with wavelength and time. This means that DGD is a statistical parameter, obeys the law of probability theory and thus has uncertainty associated with it. PMD is the average value of a distribution of a large number of independent DGD measurements.   >>
